Garden Design & Installation
We turn bare, overgrown, or hard-packed yards into California native gardens shaped with stone, log, and branch hardscaping.
San Francisco garden design and care
From a hillside of California natives to a redesigned Pacific Heights patio, we shape San Francisco gardens that fit the way you actually live outside.

Services

We turn bare, overgrown, or hard-packed yards into California native gardens shaped with stone, log, and branch hardscaping.

We redesign patios from initial layout ideas through material and plant selection, with a clear timeline the whole way through.

Ongoing weeding, watering, and seasonal upkeep that keeps a planted garden looking as good years later as it did on day one.

For San Francisco's tightest, most vertical properties, we break the lot into several distinct planted areas instead of one cramped space.

Hillside natives to hidden patios, gardens shaped for San Francisco's steepest, tightest lots
Our story
We design, build, and maintain gardens across San Francisco, from steep hillside lots to the narrow vertical yards that come with city living. Our work starts with what's already there: soil, slope, light, and the shape of the property, and builds outward using California native shrubs, grasses, and wildflowers alongside natural stone, logs, and branches for pathways and structure.
We stay close to the process. Clients help choose the plants and materials, and we walk them through a timeline before any digging starts, then hand off advice on caring for the space once it's planted. For smaller, vertical San Francisco lots, we break a property into distinct areas so even a tight footprint gets a real garden.
We also stay on after installation, keeping gardens weeded, watered, and shaped through the seasons so they hold up years after the first planting.
What customers say
“John is truly an artist! We have a large, (about 50x20 ft) sloped front yard. One year ago it was hard soil and weeds. John transformed it into a hillside garden using California native shrubs, grasses, trees and wildflowers and used logs, stones and branches to create shapes, pathways and boundaries. It was all worth it! The garden is really lovely and looks totally natural. We are very happy with the results. Thank you John!”
“John was extremely helpful through the entire process of redesigning our patio in Pacific Heights. He gave feedback on some of our initial ideas and was communicative and transparent on the design, purchasing of materials & shrubs / plants, and his timeline of work. Thanks and definitively would recommend.”
“John is a phenomenal craftsman - you'll spend a lifetime looking for people who enjoy their work as much as he does. He did a wonderful job of fixing the landscape of our Noe Valley home. For both the front yard and the backyard John went above and beyond anything we expected. He completely fixed our backyard garden so that our two-year-old could have a safe and beautiful area to play.”
